Essar Steel to Supply Pipes for Gujarat Project

HYSP – MUMBAI, JUNE 16:  

Essar Steel has bagged an order to supply pipes for Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation Yojana promoted by the Gujarat Government.

Under the programme, the water of Narmada will be distributed to 115 reservoirs across seven districts of Saurashtra through four link pipelines over 1,022,589 acres. This project is estimated to cost Rs. 10,800 crore.

Of the 5.86 lakh tonnes of pipes required for the project, Essar Steel will supply 1.2 lakh tonnes of Helical Submerged Arc Welding (HSaw) pipes, which are 12-m long and 120 inches in diameter. The order will be executed over a period of one year. Essar Steel has an annual production capacity of 2.75 lakh tonnes of HSAW pipes.

Harjit S Bedi, Chief Executive Officer, Essar Pipe Mill, said the company has an excellent track record of supplying water pipes to many projects in India.

Essar Steel’s pipe mill at Hazira in Gujarat has an annual production capacity of 0.6 million tonnes of which 3.25 lakh tonne is Longitudinal Submerge-arc Welded (LSaw) pipes and 2.75 lakh tonne is HSaw pipes. The plant is backed by a steel plant ensuring quality steel for making pipes.
